no one tells u this ......u need courage and vision and equity....says Alok

don't just whip politicians like a stray dog ....take care of them .....and then demand progress
and development......Alok

Though India suffers with acute poverty but only politicians and social workers are expected to do sacrifices, work for free, lead a simple life, etc. Why ? When salary of all in govt has gone up drastically, when teachers, doctors, saints, professionals spare no one then why we expect high from politicians? For taking care of RIL when Mukesh can build house worth 1600 CR then what President shud get for taking care of Country. When other who's who can openly gift plane and ships to wife, buy islands, buy bunglows in Dubai then why u dont raise voice?

I think ICICI peon is getting more then our MP's, MLA's and corporators. And we whip on this to them.
I am in favor of appointing a commission ( on the basis of pay commissions) who shud decided new salary for our elected representatives. An MP shud get nothing less then Rs. 5 lac a month and so on......and up to panchayat the pay scale shud change. But there perks and other benefits shud be curtailed/ controlled. And ofcourse their misuse and corruption shud be dealt with sternly.

Now NGO's have come up who pay their mentors officially then why not officials of political parties be paid remuneration. Many of them give full time to party.Let the parties come forward and start paying their full time workeres.Or else they have to depend on hafta.

Dear Parliamentarians ,

What corporate executives did to increase their own salary? They first incresed the salary of their juniors beyond reasonableness so that automatically they became entitled to a better salary and benefits. So go ahead and allow social workers like SEO's to charge some reasonable fees for services rendered. When no one gives any thing for free then why expect social workers to work like that . Then increse the salary of elected reps. of Panchayat and nagar palikas. Then of MLA's and finally when they draw more then MPs then MPs can justifiably increses own salary. Pl. go ahead, do it , I mean it. But for havens sake reduce corruption, stop[ delays specially in courts, give us progress like we see in Malasia, China, Singapore and every where.

Jain Sadhu.....Re: My reply to Mr. Santhanam Gopalakrishnan who asked following questions on rtiindia.org site....about Jain temple and nude sadhus...Alok

Religious institutions in Resedential Areas
Mr. Santhanam Gopalakrishnan asked following
questions on rtiindia.org site
My question is:

I have nothing against any religion but in our locality which is a pure residential locality. We have a huge Digambar Jain institution being built up. The visitors to this place create a lot of problem for local residents, this is still tolerable, we have nude jain sadhus visiting frequently and this becomes a very uncomfortable situation for ladies and children around.

My question is:

1. Is such an institution legal to build in residential locality
2. Is public nudity in the name of religion legal and allowed.
3. What legal options do residents have to stop such activities

Alok Tholiya replies:
Ans 1. U will only find hind temples, and mosques illegally built every where, be it footpath or slums etc.. Mahalaxmi temple Mumbai blocked the road of thousands living in the area legitimately. Only Jains, Christians and parsies don't build illegal temples. However u
can write under RTI to local municipal office and if same is illegal then get it demolished as though I am a digambar jain but would not tolerate any illegal activities. By the way Ganpati, Garba, Namaj, political meetings etc. are held on main roads, footpaths, bridges, railways .They block traffic, cause delay, accidents and also increase pollution. What have u done about the.Or these dont bother Um?

Ans. 2: Come and have a walk with me on highway in Mumbai ( just near my house) in the morning and u will find hundreds of young and old ladies and gents and children doing their morning call in open and naked. What is a solution that. Thousands take their daughters and wife etc in the morning to school or offices thru the road where men are sitting hanging their bells with dabba in open.Same u can see around railway lines every morning.

In posh locality like linking road ( I am not talking about official flash market )
after midnight u
can see hundreds semi nude prostitutes in front of residential buildings.Yet the area is costliest residential locality in Mumbai.

Everyone including u and me have some time of our age liked to see xxx movies. Same is story of our children and also mostly of spouses.Porn sites r most popular and same r adult movies. Our serials and Hindi films are equally bad. What have u done to save ur family from these scenes/ glimpses/ stealth seeings ?

If u read and learn why these muni maharaj follow the extreme way of giving up every worldly things / attachments/ then u will change the way u look at them. Today all politicians, bureaucrats, religious head, people from once a noble profession of medical and education are just after amassing but dig Jains sadhus give up all. In peak summer they walk bear foot , no vehicles, no food on table or no bank account, no family, no house, no bed, no luxuries, no comfort and not even a piece of cloth. They have
renounced everything in life. And preach simplicity, truthfulness, sacrifice, non violence, vegetarianism, ahinsa, world brotherhood etc. etc.( and from Gandhiji to Alexander ( when gave up aggression) have confessed that they derived inspiration from Jain sadhus.
Ans 3. What activities? Pl. define? Are they creating noise pollution like in Azan or prayers? Traffic jams? Causing traffic jams which we see aruond other religious places? do u find littering around any Jain temple like most other places? Do u find beggers like most other places? Are there riots which we see in many other parts? Do u find any drunkards dancing in the name of religion? Have u ever received any gang of tapories asking for chanda/ alms/ donation in the name of Puja in Jain Temple ( which we face every day from non Jains)? Are there flower stalls, prasad stalls , pandits / Mullas chasing u around ? Non of this is happening I am sure. So what is pertubing u? U cant live in
coexisatance? Learn tolerance. Listen to Osho. And if there is a genuine nuisance then just go politely and request the Trustees of temple and they will listen to u. But to many religious head u will not even dare to go and complain and if u do they will just do
opposite and u will regret complaining against them. And if I were u then I would have sold my place as place near Jain temple fetches higher price and shifted to another place where I may not see naked Sadhus but may see my own cloths being removed ( there are many areas which r ruled by mafias) , where might is right, where u will never feel secured specially during riots.
Jains believe in perfect family planning and there fore do not breed anti socials, riotious and notorious,
mafias, bootleggers. U r in safe locality.

Thanks and Regards,
Alok Tholiya (S.E.O.),

R all concerned sold out in govt

The President,
WIAA,
Mumbai.

All associations , unions, groups and communities etc. work for welfare of their members.WIAA is India's leading car owners association. It is not possible to work for any group without proper study, statistics, data and research. In my more then 20 yrs of membership I have not received a single paper, study, data from WIAA which can be good, useful or educational for members. Is it not necessary to know which cars meet more fatal accidents before buying a new car that too specially for younger ones in family. It is of utmost importance for parents to know the safest card for their children.
Have u ever advised on these? Did u put up RTI application ? Have u sought any MP's help to raise query in house ( specially when all whos' who of WIAA always attend VIPs in large nos. and are never bothered about small non VIP memebers like me).
Have u tried to collect data from day to day news in papers?
Are u starteled by accidents and death of youth of country on bike and cars? Did u issue any advisory. Never beacuse seat of WIAA is luxurious and envious ( but is non delivering) .
R all concerned sold out in govt , transport commissionerrette, parliament and even WIAA to not to touch any topic affecting car and bike manufectureres?????
Wake up and deliver . Have courage and deliverance rather trying to show down me who can never be , Idiots ( u must be treating me like that ) can never be.

Sir, I am also concerned about to deaths and bad accidents of pedastrians and motorists by dumpers . They r next to infamous blue line of Delhi. Pl. show ur concern and take up issue with BMC and others concerned.

Dear Mr. Tholiya,

Instead of blaming WIAA for the statistics you being an activist should know that nobody has the statistics, even the full data is not with the insurance companies or any authorities, so don't blame WIAA when the authorities have not got it.

Your e-mails to dealers of companies would not serve any purpose or the car manufacturers as they don't have the data of accidents.

Never thought that CUCUMBER can do so much!

Never thought that CUCUMBER can do so much!

The Amazing Cucumber

This information was in The New York Times several weeks ago as part of their "Spotlight on the Home" series that highlighted creative and fanciful ways to solve common problems.

1. Cucumbers contain most of the vitamins you need every day, just one cucumber contains Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B3, Vitamin B5, Vitamin B6, Folic Acid, Vitamin C, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium and Zinc.

2. Feeling tired in the afternoon, put down the caffeinated soda and pick up a cucumber. Cucumbers are a good source of B Vitamins and Carbohydrates that can provide that quick pick-me-up that can last for hours.

3. Tired of your bathroom mirror fogging up after a shower? Try rubbing a cucumber slice along the mirror, it will eliminate the fog and provide a soothing, spa-like fragrance.

4. Are grubs and slugs ruining your planting beds? Place a few slices in a small pie tin and your garden will be free of pests all season long. The chemicals in the cucumber react with the aluminium to give off a scent undetectable to humans but drive garden pests crazy and make them flee the area.

5. Looking for a fast and easy way to remove cellulite before going out or to the pool? Try rubbing a slice or two of cucumbers along your problem area for a few minutes, the photochemical in the cucumber cause the collagen in your skin to tighten, firming up the outer layer and reducing the visibility of cellulite. Works great on wrinkles too!!!

6. Want to avoid a hangover or terrible headache? Eat a few cucumber slices before going to bed and wake up refreshed and headache free. Cucumbers contain enough sugar, B vitamins and electrolytes to replenish essential nutrients the body lost, keeping everything in equilibrium, avoiding both a hangover and headache!!

7. Looking to fight off that afternoon or evening snacking binge? Cucumbers have been used for centuries and often used by European trappers, traders and explores for quick meals to thwart off starvation.
8. Have an important meeting or job interview and you realize that you don't have enough time to polish your shoes? Rub a freshly cut cucumber over the shoe, its chemicals will provide a quick and durable shine that not only looks great but also repels water.

9. Out of WD 40 and need to fix a squeaky hinge? Take a cucumber slice and rub it along the problematic hinge, and voila, the squeak is gone!

10. Stressed out and don't have time for massage, facial or visit to the spa? Cut up an entire cucumber and place it in a boiling pot of water, the chemicals and nutrients from the cucumber with react with the boiling water and be released in the steam, creating a soothing, relaxing aroma that has been shown the reduce stress in new mothers and college students during final exams.

11. Just finish a business lunch and realize you don't have gum or mints? Take a slice of cucumber and press it to the roof of your mouth with your tongue for 30 seconds to eliminate bad breath, the photochemical will kill the bacteria in your mouth responsible for causing bad breath.

12. Looking for a 'green' way to clean your faucets, sinks or stainless steel? Take a slice of cucumber and rub it on the surface you want to clean, not only will it remove years of tarnish and bring back the shine, but is won't leave streaks and won't harm you fingers or fingernails while you clean.

13. Using a pen and made a mistake? Take the outside of the cucumber and slowly use it to erase the pen writing, also works great on crayons and markers that the kids have used to decorate the walls!!
Pass this along to everybody you know who is looking for better and safer ways to solve life's everyday problems

The free cancer prevention ...Go Banana

The fully ripe banana produces a substance called TNF (Tumor Necrosis Factor) which has the
ability to combat abnormal cells.
So don't be surprised very soon the shop will go out of stock for
bananas.
As the banana ripens, it develops dark spots or patches on the skin. The
more dark patches it has, the higher will be its' immunity enhancement quality .
Hence the Japanese love bananas for a good reason.
According to a Japanese scientific research,
banana contains TNF which has anti-cancer properties.
The degree of anti-cancer effect corresponds to the degree of ripeness of the fruit,
i.e. the riper the banana, the better
the anti-cancer quality..
In an animal experiment carried out by a professor in Tokyo University comparing
the various health benefits of different fruits, using banana, grape,
apple, water melon, pineapple, pear and persimmon, it was found that
banana gave the best results. It increased the number of white blood
cells, enhanced the immunity of the body and produced anti-cancer
substance TNF.
The recommendation is to eat 1 to 2 banana a day to increase your body
immunity to diseases like cold, flu and others.
According to the Japanese professor, yellow skin bananas with dark spots
on it are 8 times more effective in enhancing the property of white
blood cells than the green skin version

Unethical Insurance agents

Dear Kalpeshbhai,
This is with much regret that my own relative and esteemed client has chosen to renew the chola car policy thru broker 2005141878160002 of Mulund . This same party was a client of other insurer but I coxed and convineced him to come to chola fold. However as a reward Chola has snatched the client from me and thus kicked on my bread and business.

I m told there is a nexus between this broker and some one in chola. This broker gets the data of other agents of Chola and then undercuts by giving 50% discount ( where as we as dealer/ agent r getting only 40%) .

As u r aware I had done hectic follow up with u to keep this client with me but I lost him because Chola is offering higher discounts to agents/ brokers related with or having connections with Chola sr. execs. I m told.

Pl. clarify why this dual policy and boost confidence of ur agents.

Thanks and Regards,
Alok Tholiya (S.E.O.),

Marriage: Finding a match:

Marriage: Finding a match:

Basically every community had brahmin (family priest) to nai ( barber) who was a link between others . They knew inside outside of each family and would play a crucial roll in match making.

Then every joint family wud have a enthusiastic senior citizen who wud go places & find match for eligible bachelors of his family.

Now neither such dedicated institutions exists nor the youth r willing to abide by their decisions/ recommendations.

Then what? ( Exceptions r always there:)
If u r rich and handsome/ beautiful then u get chased .
If u r not having money nor looks then u r willing to compromise and adjust and get match soon.
The problem comes when u r middle class ( and they are in large number) , having good looks and r well educated and live in metros.
To get similar match becomes difficult.
So then u shud be prepared to adjust and compromise.
Here r some more tips :
1. Follow up matches/ prospects every saturday: subscribe to authentic matrimonial web site. But that is no help if u just wait apple to fall on ur lap. Every week u have to sit down and search the site and send ur interest. Follow up with the profiles u r interested in. Find the background of profiles u r interested in. Then find their close relatives and friend and take their help in the matter. This is to be done religiously every saturday and sunday. Just posting ur profile will hardly help.

2. Attend marriages: Youngsters are in best mood and looks when they r attending marriages. That is the occasion u get ready to ur best , best of make up, best of dresses, best of style etc. etc.. U really can win hearts of prince or princess while in a marriage of ur friend, community, siblings, cousins. But many youth keep away and only send parents to such occasions. While in marriage u r ready to ur best but u can't /won't get ready the same way when individually u have to for visiting family of match. Never ever miss the wadding ceremonies / similar functions if u r of marriageable age.

3. Join student/ youth wing: This is another good exposure to marriageable age youth. Most communities have their youth wing / student wing. If u r active in such group and r dynamic, impressive and talented then u will be soon apple of eye of some one. Never loose opportunity to work shoulder to shoulder with others in social -religious events .

alert for Sr. Executives, corporates

Very important article....
Are you sleeping enough?

What killed Ranjan Das and Lessons for Corporate India

A month ago, many of us heard about the sad demise of Ranjan Das from Bandra, Mumbai. Ranjan, just 42 years of age, was the CEO of SAP-Indian Subcontinent, the youngest CEO of an MNC in India. He was very active in sports, was a fitness freak and a marathon runner. It was common to see him run on Bandra's Carter Road. Just after Diwali, on 21st Oct, he returned home from his gym after a workout, collapsed with a massive heart attack and died. He is survived by his wife and two very young kids.

It was certainly a wake-up call for corporate India. However, it was even more disastrous for runners amongst us. Since Ranjan was an avid marathoner (in Feb 09, he ran Chennai Marathon at the same time some of us were running Pondicherry Marathon 180 km away), the question came as to why an exceptionally active, athletic person succumb to heart attack at 42 years of age.

Was it the stress?

A couple of you called me asking about the reasons. While Ranjan had mentioned that he faced a lot of stress, that is a common element in most of our lives. We used to think that by being fit, one can conquer the bad effects of stress. So I doubted if the cause was stress.

The Real Reason

However, everyone missed out a small line in the reports that Ranjan used to make do with 4-5 hours of sleep. This is an earlier interview of Ranjan on NDTV in the program 'Boss' Day Out':

http://connect. in.com/ranjan- das/play- video-boss- day-out-ranjan- das-of-sap- india-229111- 807ecfcf1ad96603 6c289b3ba6c376f2 530d7484. html

Here he himself admits that he would love to get more sleep (and that he was not proud of his ability to manage without sleep, contrary to what others extolled).

The Evidence

Last week, I was working with a well-known cardiologist on the subject of ‘Heart Disease caused by Lack of Sleep’. While I cannot share the video nor the slides because of confidentiality reasons, I have distilled the key points below in the hope it will save some of our lives.

Some Excerpts:

· Short sleep duration (<5 or 5-6 hours) increased risk for high BP by 350% to 500% compared to those who slept longer than 6 hours per night. Paper published in 2009.

As you know, high BP kills.

· Young people (25-49 years of age) are twice as likely to get high BP if they sleep less. Paper published in 2006.

· Individuals who slept less than 5 hours a night had a 3-fold increased risk of heart attacks. Paper published in 1999.

· Complete and partial lack of sleep increased the blood concentrations of High sensitivity C-Reactive Protein (hs-cRP), the strongest predictor of heart attacks. Even after getting adequate sleep later, the levels stayed high!!

· Just one night of sleep loss increases very toxic substances in body such as Interleukin- 6 (IL-6), Tumour Necrosis Factor-Alpha (TNF-alpha) and C-reactive protein (cRP). They increase risks of many medical conditions, including cancer, arthritis and heart disease. Paper published in 2004.

· Sleeping for <=5 hours per night leads to 39% increase in heart disease. Sleeping for <=6 hours per night leads to 18% increase in heart disease. Paper published in 2006.

Ideal Sleep

For lack of space, I cannot explain here the ideal sleep architecture. But in brief, sleep is composed of two stages: REM (Rapid Eye Movement) and non-REM. The former helps in mental consolidation while the latter helps in physical repair and rebuilding. During the night, you alternate between REM and non-REM stages 4-5 times.

The earlier part of sleep is mostly non-REM. During that period, your pituitary gland releases growth hormones that repair your body. The latter part of sleep is more and more REM type.

For you to be mentally alert during the day, the latter part of sleep is more important. No wonder when you wake up with an alarm clock after 5-6 hours of sleep, you are mentally irritable throughout the day (lack of REM sleep). And if you have slept for less than 5 hours, your body is in a complete physical mess (lack of non-REM sleep), you are tired throughout the day, moving like a zombie and your immunity is way down (I’ve been there, done that L)

Finally, as long-distance runners, you need an hour of extra sleep to repair the running related damage.

If you want to know if you are getting adequate sleep, take Epworth Sleepiness Test below.

Interpretation: Score of 0-9 is considered normal while 10 and above abnormal. Many a times, I have clocked 21 out the maximum possible 24, the only saving grace being the last situation, since I don’t like to drive (maybe, I should ask my driver to answer that line J)

In conclusion:

Barring stress control, Ranjan Das did everything right: eating proper food, exercising (marathoning!), maintaining proper weight. But he missed getting proper and adequate sleep, minimum 7 hours. In my opinion, that killed him.

If you are not getting enough sleep (7 hours), you are playing with fire, even if you have low stress.

I always took pride in my ability to work 50 hours at a stretch whenever the situation warranted. But I was so spooked after seeing the scientific evidence last week that since Saturday night, I ensure I do not even set the alarm clock under 7 hours. Now, that is a nice excuse to get some more sleep. J

Unfortunately, Ranjan Das is not alone when it comes to missing sleep. Many of us are doing exactly the same, perhaps out of ignorance. Please forward this mail to as many of your colleagues as possible, especially those who might be short-changing their sleep. If we can save even one young life because of this email, I would be the happiest person on earth.

ps: Incidentally, just as human beings need 7 hours of sleep, you should know that cats need 15 hours of sleep and horses need 3 hours of it. So are you planning to be a cool cat or a dumb horse? J

Cant we Indians fill potholes ...

when others can build bridge in 7 days we Indians can not fill potholes

Accidents can happen ( but can be terror act/ sabotage/ land grab act etc. too).
But failure to contain the losses is unpardonable. Worst is/ inhuman failure to provide other emergency relief / services. Yesterday I was on way to Kota from Jaipur. The site / Oil depot which is still live and burning ( though not very aggressively and is nearing end) was close to Highway leading to Kota. Govt has diverted traffic from that route and rightly though. But the diversion has no markings, not even lanterns in night, no sign boards with arrows to give proper direction.Every junctions we had to ask for correct route as v has started at pre dawn when there was no noticeable traffic to follow. Several patches in between have big pot holes.By spending some paltry amount govt could have made this diversion too safe and motorable. But who cares . V read newly elected MP's r fighting 4 bigger and prominent bungalow allotment at Delhi.
Is there any human touch/ caring/ preparedness/ vision in politics and bureaucracy??
Has any one from media raised this issue? or they r busy attending cocktail dinners?

Is there a NGO who can take some initiative and show down callous administration by being alert and active?

My expenses are minimum,,,,,,,,,,,,,,mail 2 to family and other youngsters .....Alok

My expenses r minimum. I have no desire for luxury.
Dadaji remained in Rs. 5 chappel, 1 jodi choti kurta etc, but was happiest man.And left us with property of crores which he bought with his hard saved money which he never let squandered.

Or atleast never showed any frustration by seeing others luxury. he always/ and only wanted high quality and tasty food.
He always declared that I am merely ur munim / trustee and securing ur money/ future. He would be scolding if he sees any wastage like water, electricity, etc etc..
Same is done by Daddy. But no one became offended. Nor they had to bear the brunt of retaliation from their children for reminder of leaving lights fans on or on some wasteful ( as they thought) expenses.

But I feel when I remind on such issues then all of u feel hurt. feel taking retaliation.
May be u r more beautiful/ handsome . May be u r more intelligent. May be u r earning more then me. May be u r more educated.May be u r more pampered , liked, chased or have more options but I will remain what I am a husband for wife and father for children.
Yet If I have no right to say / suggest, pin point , improve, advise then what m I doing here?
Any how to begin with I have stopped ( attempting) bothering about wastage's, losses, misuse under use / over use. Now if water heater blasts, PC burns, ac conks off, or fat bills come I am least bothered. I too m just munim but of modern times ( unlike Dadaji who had right to screen, audit, budget) , and keep paying for any amount of bills happily and cheerfully. I thought my savings are for ur security, and security of old age and for making ur habits good. But that is affecting my image and relation and if my not nagging gives u all peace then let us have it that way.
But if fans keep burning, or such things keep happening then dont eat my head. Simply pay and get it repaired. And submit the voucher and collect the payment from my office .
But if there is fire due to over heating of appliances/ cable then?? God knows and knows well wait will it happen?

Till then have happy time...

( This is written seeing that present generation is failing to understand nagging parents and give them no right to intervene and advise)
( They do not worry about unforeseen developments which can happen in life and want just to compete in others in living in style or callously)

Diwali Prayer

This year, Goddess Lakshmi, please pass by my door

There are others in need, and they deserve you more.

Take my earnings, my wealth and my pride, I pray

Let shared wealth – not my own -- glow radiant today.

Am I falsely proud, Mother? Is this illusion and lie?

Take me down, Maha Kali. Make me stand small and shy.

Come with your sword, like a sheep shear me naked

And then hold my hand, help me hold my head high.

My countrymen stand small, how can I stand tall?

Cast their fate upon me, in their midst let me fall.

And then, Mother Shakti, give me love, strength and grace

To be a guide they can trust, and a true friend to all.

Happy Diwali, my friends. I am praying for an end to our collective mania for endless economic growth, and our addiction to the rat race. I’m praying for peace, contentment and a healthy dose of reality. I humbly ask you all to join me in this prayer.

Warm Regards,

Alok Tholiya

My reply ..about Jain temple and nude sadhus..

Religious institutions in Resedential Areas
Mr. Santhanam Gopalakrishnan asked following questions on rtiindia.org site

However u can write under RTI to local municipal office and if same is illegal then get it demolished as though I am a digambar jain but would not tolerate any illegal activities.

In posh locality like linking road ( I am not talking about official flash market )
after midnight u can see hundreds semi nude prostitutes in front of residential buildings.Yet the area is costliest residential locality in Mumbai.

They have renounced everything in life.
U cant live in coexisatance? Learn tolerance. Listen to Osho. And if there is a genuine nuisance then just go politely and request the Trustees of temple and they will listen to u. But to many religious head u will not even dare to go and complain and if u do they will just do
opposite and u will regret complaining against them. And if I were u then I would have sold my place as place near Jain temple fetches higher price and shifted to another place where I may not see naked Sadhus but may see my own cloths being removed ( there are many areas which r ruled by mafias) , where might is right, where u will never feel secured specially during riots.
Jains believe in perfect family planning and there fore do not breed anti socials, riotious and notorious, mafias, bootleggers. U r in safe locality.

RE: Penalty order under section 207A(2) of the BMC ,10(A) of the Maharashtra Edu (cess) Act of 1962

No. AC/PN/473 of 2008-2009 H/E ward, Sr. No. 309612

GIST IN ONE PARA ( if u don’t have time to read full mail then at least read this Para and oblige)

A trespasser who has built unauthorized shade does not pay any rent to us (landlords), does not pay anything to govt of India, baths in open half naked, commits several nuisance, but does not pay even his property tax, does not keep his surrounding and toilet which he uses clean but due to rent act and delaying courts we can't do anything. And if landlord would like to develop his property he would bring injunctions after injunctions. And if he decides to vacate he will demand nothing less then Rd. 25 lacs. So this a reward to illegal settler enjoying all rights and privileges for free. And the worst is such migrants use school, hospital, and all other facilities of city for free.

We were tenants in an old building. In 1978 my grand father purchased this old building.

Since the earlier landlord was not staying in Mumbai one notorious tenant had inducted two trespassers in building and was making income out of it. We did not take any action on these tenant and trespassers. One trespasser is a dhobi running an cloth ironing shop with 4 people working for 16 hrs. His monthly income is Rs 70000/- pm + (they charge average Rs. 3/- , sari Rs. 10+, Suit Rs. 80/- +). One person does 200 clothes everyday. So 200x Rs.3/- x 4 persons makes it income of Rs.2400 per day so per month Rs. 72000/- pm. He pays no sales tax, no income tax, no service tax, and no profession tax no other govt levies. I m sure he is also not paying shops and establishment tax. He has no account to be maintained, no salary, no computers reqd to write accounts, no filing work, no returns so no professional fees to be paid b y him. So in short no overheads. Thinking poor as operates from a unauthorized shade dada's don't ask for chanda, puja contributions, alms etc.

However just to save his unauthorized structure he bribed BMC officials and got that structure assessed. Ideally municipal officers should have demolished same instead of assessing. But like whole of Mumbai have been converted in t slumbay this too was.

The assessment tax for six months is merely Rs. 100/- for this unauthorized shade.

This dhobi has not paid even this paltry amount who has by now bought several acres of land in UP, send lots of costly items to his family in UP. Has mobile. Pays electricity bills in thousands as same will be disconnected. But not paying the Rs. 100/-

Finally Bombay municipal corporation (BMC/MCGM) has given notice of 15 days to me for his default and warned that attachment of your immovable property will be done if the trespasser does not pay his liability as I am the property owner.

Can some one pl. advise as to how to deal with this situation?

The Municipal Commissioner,
MCGM
Mumbai

Dear Sir,
Namasakar.

Reg: dark yellow colour drinking water in Taps

Pl. note for last few days we have been getting yellow colour drinking water in our Taps. I have a collected a sample of same which I am sending to A.E. H/East.
Pl. note that there have been several deaths in Mumbai due to Diarrhea in last few months. I am sure news like this must not be letting u, ur staff and city fathers sleep well. After all u draw salary from this city and citizens of this city dying like this in 21st century in most advanced city of India ( though a third world country) is definitely a shame for any responsible person to do with city.
I sincerely request u to look in to the matter and take necessary steps to give clean, clear and potable water to heavily taxed Mumbaikars.

I support Anil Ambani for using pen power instead muscle power to settle his long unresolved issues.....Alok

SubjectNew ways of shaping public opinion
Main PointUsing advertisements as a means to inform and shape public opinion

Message
The Ambani brothers dispute has taken an advertising turn with the ADAG group asking for people's views via front-page newspaper advertisements. (See samples in www.karmayog.org/redirect/strred.asp?docId=25829 )
a) What do you feel are the pros and cons of such a method of resolving disputes via public opinion and pressure?
b) If you had the opportunity to do so, what advertisments would you like to release and why?

Alok Tholiya replies: I too use opinion building measures like, seeing elders, community leaders, writing emails, blogs, etc and even attack thru RTI or media mails the person troublingg me but never ever I take law in to hand. Anil Ambani has done the same by releasing advt. against his issues. It is shameful that P.M. disliked his pen weapon where as we find many politicians and businessman in India and world over use muscle, mafia, Dawood to settle their issues. I m fully with Anil on his method of raising his issues.

If there is a dispute which is not getting resolved then u have fewer options. Either u take law in hand ( murder, rape, revenge, sabotage, etc) or create public awareness about the unresolved issue and atrocities/ effects on u.Createng public opinion, public pressure is most peaceful, lawful, and rightful thing. And it is rightly said mother also does not feed till u cry then as a suffering party u have to make hue and cry to get long and harmful issue resolved. In most other cases we see brothers becoming rivals or even blood thirsty but Anil Ambani has done it gracefully and peacefully thru press adverts. Hats off to him. Alok Tholiya tholiya@yahoo.com

The Chairman,

Hinduja Hospital Trust,

Mumbai,

India.

Dear Sir,

Namaskar.

Yours is one of the best managed and tension free hospital. May god bless Hinduja family for this big contribution to our Mumbai. Our family is has always been depending on this great institution for last 35 years.. However here are few humble suggestions:

  1. There are many grateful patients / neighbours / sr. citizens who would like to give their mite to this great institution in terms of time / money in their own humble way.Pl make one patients and hospital alumni. Last time my father was hospitalised at the same time when several patients from Gujarat Earthquake were flown in. You were running short of hands. At such times really local volunteers can be of help. Who will feel happy volunteering their time and efforts.
  2. The suggestion box are everywhere. But no paper / pen provided.. No one carries paper etc. when they rush to hospital. Encourage people to write something every day.
  3. Your costly medical machines are working but wheel chair etc. need to be serviced.
  4. There is lot of pressure on ward staff in the morning hours.. Simultaneously discharge timings are same before 11 am. Therefore thrice I have experienced delay in discharge and finally they charge for next day and I have to run to get same reversed. Make changes in discharge timings or increase staff in morning hours.
  5. Mostly doctor’s jr.. who has to make summary of patients treatment is never available in spite of discharge instructions by attending specialists. Why not ensure they come without repeated requests. There is always no bed available reply when one wants but there is always a delay in discharge. The impression it gives is that you don’t relive a patients till you have another ready. Bad for the name of Great Hindujas.
  6. Adult diapers given to my mother who is thin and slim and skinny (unlike me) were XL. Same were charged at Rs. 75 per diapers.Pl. note that diapers are available in different sizes and best diapers are available at Rs. 22/- Each. I do not blame management on this as there is always a shadow under the lamp.. Someone jr. is making negligent purchases and patients are paying for same.Pl. investigate all non standard items purchases.
  7. The Shirt and pent given to my mother were too large to be managed while walking. In spite of folding pyjama it was six inches out from feet. And overcharging physiotherapist (Rs. 300 for 5 minutes) was insisting her to walk but how can she with such pyjamas. Pyjamas should be with good quality elastic rather than nada (thread).
  8. Like our democratic system spoils elected representatives and they behave as raja's for life same happens to patients relatives after being discharged from ICU to regular ward.. In ICU as relative’s patients we had to do nothing and things were happening automatically. But in wards nothing was happening automatically. When my attending family members got frustrated on several issues and told me then I though over it and replied it is our patient handling and familiarization programme and that unless you do most of the things here then how will you cop up with patient at home after being discharged.
  9. However a white board/ Note pad is required with all patients bed for the points which patients relatives want to say, need attention to etc.. Several repeated request to Nurses bring no result as they don't move an inch without doctors instructions. And by the time either shift of nurse changes or responsible relative has gone for some reason and the issue keeps hanging. On 6th Feb we had pointed out repeatedly to staff and jr. docs about need to remove stitches of my mother which were done ten days before. Finally when I got face to face by chance / accidentally on 13th Feb. to the attending sr. doctor and pointed him our request only then he instructed the staff for doing the needful. By this time skin had started coming over stitches on scalp.
  10. Most relatives of patients complain that they are never easily able to see the Sr. doctor under whom patient is admitted. I can understand that time can not be guaranteed but following three things can be done to ensure that they can meet without much difficulties:
  • Staff must be informed and in turn they can inform patients that if everything goes well then doc comes on round between these times. Relatives will ensure that they will remain present during that slot.
  • Doctors if miss that slot then inform staff that what is rescheduled expected timings.
  • Finally most of the doctors have their clinics/OPD too. They be advised to meet in their chamber during OPD hours. I cud not see our doctor for eight days because same never coincided. We should avoid the chances and wait and anxiety and ensure that doctors lend their ear to right relatives which is only possible if same is part of management and not coincidence.Pl. Counsel them (relatives).Take them in confidence. After all they are worried, spending heavily and yet are in dark though you (hospital and doctor) are doing all best and right but sharing is as important as caring.

11. A system can be evolved where in if tests above certain level are being carried out then a need is explained and consent is taken.

12. All Govt. worldwide must introduce a system where jottings of patients/ relatives are maintained as record along with other medical records. This will reduce delay / negligence or at least bring same to record. In Niron Hospital, Santacruz when a patient had heamichuria (Blood in urine) and sonography was suggested at 5 pm but till 11 pm they could not get one sonologist and they have permission to run ICU??? But do we have any thing to prove this if something serious had happened? No.

  1. 26/11 attack on Cama Hospital was not a planned one. There target cud have been Times building or something else. And after such big issue which we have been able to raise at international level I don't think at least hospitals will be a target of terrorism unless there are some VIP admitted. Therefore not allowing relatives in to the lobby is inhuman. So many relatives are standing outside the building in the compound or on road. There are no toilets for them, no canteen, no benches. And they are bearing blowing wind of sea and bearing scorching heat in the afternoon. I don’t know what will happen to them in the monsoon.

Sir/ Madam, Our police have no time to review their red alert or such instructions. Our press is busy with bachhans, khans, page 3 etc.. etc. Pl. don’t wait for them for taking up human and common men’s issues. You have been doing good work. Think of sufferings of patients relatives. Let them in till inside lounge. You may send them up only against passes... I don’t mind if you put Rs. 10/- as entry to waiting lounge but give them shade. You are great human and will do the needful, I am sure.

14. You have been one of the first hospital giving best facilities to patients and their relatives. I can’t count but are like best canteen, lobby, water coolers, rest rooms for relatives of ICU patients, free incoming phone facilities, dietician, TV in lobby for even guests, etc. etc. Times have changed. You need to give net facility to them. Have two or three pc with net connections and you may charge for usage. But now relative coming in hospital for hours and days cannot remain disconnected with world/ office etc. etc. Or let patients alumni arrange and manage.

15. You have a tie up with a leading US hospital and gained a lot of modern management skills. Now impart same to other hospitals in India and of course on chargeable basis. My locality does not have a single good hospital. Nither they can afford nor have vision like yours. If they get training and streamlining patients/ hospital management then same will be a great boon.PL. consider same seriously.

16. LAST BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT: This suggestion I wanted to introduce with political objectives and not for my launch but of Shri Shiv Khera. However he is delaying his aggressive political launch and I don’t want to delay benefit to citizen of middle class.

You have benefits for patients below poverty line.. But what about middle class?

You are charging (by the way all institutions and service providers and even govt.) same to person earning Rs. Two lacs per annum and person earning Rs. 2crore per day like Amitabh, Shahrukh, Ambani, Tata, Birla, Mittal, Mallaya, Mayavati, lalloo, stock market king, Mafia, don, smugglers, Lootera EX ICICI Bank Chairman Kamat, Narayan Murti, Deepak parekh, Fraudsters Raju , Azim Premji, Monarchs and ex monarchs etc. etc. Specially facilities like ICU/ ICCU etc...

Imagine for a by-pass a person of middle class shells out Rs. 3 lacs and fortune five hundred co.. CEO Rs. 6 lacs (meager difference due to class of suite they choose. Is it fair, morally and ethically and economically?

Ask people to declare their income between a particular slabs. Give 50% discount for people below income of 5 lacs p.a.25% discount for people between 5 to 10 lacs. For 10 to 25 lacs pa full rates. Above 25 lacs charge 50% premium service charges.

When you touch ego of blessed monied people by giving them airhostess (earlier times before reservation started) looking and dressed Sisters, give them silky suits to wear decorate their door with names like names of suites in 7 star , special lift, special barber, special evening friends assembly ( when allowed), battery operated wheel chair, etc. Etc. Then their flattered ego will ask them to ask for premium category. They have money and they splash out in cocktails just to be on page 3 then they will also do same in the name of premium facility. But treatment to all is same. This will take care of your providing subsidy to middle class who are getting sandwiched in this era.

Thanks and Regards,

Alok Tholiya (S.E.O..),

It is he who created awreness about RTI in millions including me.It is sad that he is no more. I dont know whether aam admi ( common men) can create pressure on govt and ensure that people who have worked for countrymen are suitably acknowledged. It is sad that media also only glorifies the self seekers be it cricketers, filmies or alike who work only to serve their ends and yet get all the awards ( they may get their proffessional awrads but not the public / national award ) for doing nothing for others.

write to Prime Minister

Pl. give all ur problem and sufferings on PM's website. Link is given here.
Thanks and Regards,
Alok Tholiya (S.E.O.),

Dear Friends,

Also Please visit the following Link of Prime Minister of India and please write how our lively hood is affected and why buildings are falling and slums have come up.

xtraordinary times.....suicide avoiding

These are extraordinary times, and I would like to help u over come this. But no one can help u unless u have decided to help urself:

Ensure that u, ur parents, ur children, ur boss and ur staff all follow these mantras or else ve tumko le dubenge ( they will drown with u)..

Daily Wisdom for Troubled times

Get up earlier.
Go to bed later.

Work harder.

Finish what you start.

Learn one new thing.

Renew one contact.

Do not be copy cat and dont compare urself with the no. 1.Every one can not be no.1 Trying to copy their lifestyle, cars, the way they throw party, the way they dress etc etc is dangerous and will bring u under suicidal debt trap. Don’t run for costly work spaces when u can manage things better from a small industrial estate. And can sleep well without ant pressure.
Ask, "How can I help you?" at least once.

Make yourself visible.

Confirm if they have understood u right

Control expenses, wastages, anger, speed of vehicle, pilferage
Be of good cheer.

Take decision to expand only after due deliberations, no fancy/ whimsy ideas no borrowings

Save power, do not block windows, ventilations, doors, use CFL,

let central plant be not on for late sitters, provide smaller cabins or portable fans for such guys. Except for peak hours stop lifts not reqd...

cut on travel and phones, travel thru mass transport, reuse, refill, recycle,

Develop habit of emailing and video conferencing instead of flying.

I do not know why people r buying electronics gadgets with hundreds of features and frills but which they r not going to use/ do not learn to use. Why buy something for which ur supplier does not give training and then urstaff struggles to use, struggles to learn, under uses same. I am yet to find people who can utilize 50% of features of their PC, mobile, EPABX etc..

Do not upgrade for no reason. I have good investors but who r still using B & W monitors and 486 PC’s as their work does not demand higher configuration. But most others keep upgrading, under utilize and keep borrowing.

No car be allowed to be sold till 7 years.

Put all ur additional property on rent (demand good rent act from govt. to protect ur property from blood sucker tenants).

keep insured

be accident free, theft free,( these r very costly if not avoided)

best place to party is ur own office or home and not costly hotels

Reduce response time

increase salaries but avoid giving luxuries viz. costly cars, laptops, posh cabins, spacious offices, A class tickets( u wont spoil them and also they will save for future) and drivers.

Catch a break.
Or not.

Read again tomorrow. And tomorrow keeps coming so keep reading everyday. Till u become shock proof to recession.

Thanks and Regards,
Alok Tholiya (S.E..O.),
