10 facts to know about Anna Hazare and Lok Pal Bill

10 facts to know about Anna Hazare and Lok Pal Bill

1. Who is Anna Hazare?

An ex-army man. Fought 1965 Indo-Pak War

2. What's so special about him?

He built a village Ralegaon Siddhi in Ahamad Nagar district, Maharashtra

3. So what?

This village is a self-sustained model village. Energy is produced in the village itself from solar power, biofuel and wind mills.

In 1975, it used to be a poverty clad village. Now it is one of the richest village in India. It has become a model for self-sustained, eco-friendly & harmonic village.

4. Ok,...?

This guy, Anna Hazare was awarded Padma Bhushan and is a known figure for his social activities.

5. Really, what is he fighting for?

He is supporting a cause, the amendment of a law to curb corruption in India.

6. How that can be possible?

He is advocating for a Bill, The Lok Pal Bill (The Citizen Ombudsman Bill), that will form an autonomous authority who will make politicians (ministers), beurocrats (IAS/IPS) accountable for their deeds.

8. It's an entirely new thing right..?

In 1972, the bill was proposed by then Law minister Mr. Shanti Bhushan. Since then it has been neglected by the politicians and some are trying to change the bill to suit thier theft (corruption).

7. Oh.. He is going on a hunger strike for that whole thing of passing a Bill ! How can that be possible in such a short span of time?

The first thing he is asking for is: the government should come forward and announce that the bill is going to be passed.

Next, they make a joint committee to DRAFT the LOK PAL BILL. 50% goverment participation and 50% public participation. Because you cant trust the government entirely for making such a bill which does not suit them.

8. Fine, What will happen when this bill is passed?

A LokPal will be appointed at the centre. He will have an autonomous charge, say like the Election Commission of India. In each and every state, Lokayukta will be appointed. The job is to bring all alleged party to trial in case of corruptions within 1 year. Within 2 years, the guilty will be punished. Not like, Bofors scam or Bhopal Gas Tragedy case, that has been going for last 25 years without any result.

9. Is he alone? Whoelse is there in the fight with Anna Hazare?

Baba Ramdev, Ex. IPS Kiran Bedi, Social Activist Swami Agnivesh, RTI activist Arvind Kejriwal and many more.

Prominent personalities like Aamir Khan is supporting his cause.

10. Ok, got it. What can I do?

At least we can spread the message. How?

Putting status message, links, video, changing profile pics.

At least we can support Anna Hazare and the cause for uprooting corruption from India.

At least we can hope that his Hunger Strike does not go in vain.

At least we can pray for his good health.

Who are opposing him: All corrupt politicians, bureacrts, mafia, smugglers and others.

Who are silent : opportunists or who have slavery blood in their veins and can not rise to oppose atrocities……..Varishtha Nagrik Seva Sanstha (Tholiya Bhavan).

Alok adds: My god. Deepak bhai ur  mail deserves an award. We Indian (those with money+ego and which r easy to find) feel anything available to us is for over use / misuse / wasting/ showing off be it food, fuel, electricity, water or any other resources ( they unneccessarily burden a peon / junior because he is paid and is available).

In one marriage preparation meeting when the father of girl said I have arranged for 3 sweets and a Icecream then another friend Harish commented friend only 3 sweets ??? And I said 3 are more then enough. But those present liked suggestion of Harish and appreciated him as a very modern, matured and guest friendly and I was brushed aside. Similar suggestions for everything jacked up expenses of this friend from 25 lacs to 40 lacs and finally he sold one of the plot at near Pune to pay for marriahge expenses.

With my limited need ( my office and home is in same building) and budget I have been having only low end Maruti van for last 23 years( though changed every few year).
Most friends will suggest Alok, why not go for this make or that. I would promptly reply my budget is Rs. 2 .5 lacs. If rest u can foot then I dont mind changing. But most of the others buy, borrow steal to just keep their false pride.

One of my just married cousine's  in laws faught bitterly fight and demanded for more dowery only because back at home they wanted to have reception. How and why u can sqeeuz arms of bride side to throw a dinner?? I dont know what kind of people those are.

In my case we hosted a good engagement party from our side. So in marriage we did not arrange any dinner as groom side. There were some who commented that what kind of people we are that we did not throw a dinner. And situation was that forget asking we refused the insisting offer of bride side for 2-3 functions and clearly told them that we will have  only one dinner for reception cum marriage and that's it.Not going in to much details of things but my father paid back for a cooking range which my inlaws gave in marriage which they had to accept as he declared he will not eat food cooked on dowry gift. He did not accept any thing for himself and did not allow dowry item to be kept in his room ( even a photo frame).

Yes it was difficult for him to accpet anything from a in laws of son when  this man had  lived all his life with pride of not accpeting any thing from his father since school days (since 9th standard he gave tution and studied : B.com, LLB, ICWA,CAIIB, DBM, CS,Sanskrit Visharad, etc was lecturer in VJTI the then most renowned engineering college, was paper setter and examiner for exams of all india cost and works accountants). But in 2001 a road accident affected his memory and nature badly.

And  went to the extent of refusing to accept anything from his own father that every thing of my grandfather which should have gone to him fell in to my lap like a ripe mango ( share in grand pa's property).
While we boast we are landlord of a building in Mumbai he says I am tenant of one room in that building ( as he was before my grand pa bought from the then landlord Brigadier general Umrao singhji) and pays to me rent for his room regularly.

Daddy blatantly refused to see his name being included in  his father's will or anywhere. He does not accept anything from us to even at the age of 88 years. Does not want to bother my staff and wants to do all his work by himeself ( except for last few months as he is not well). In last 30 years I have never gone to make payment for any bills, to do train reservations etc etc but he does not want to trouble my staff easily available to him and even his own staff and did all that by himself till last few months.

But sorry situation is others as I see want to waste power, fuel, food, take help of labourer even if not needed as they think they can afford and there are many who cant afford yet do every mean thing ( like dowery, fraud, over charging, bribe, gifts, manipulations, borrowing, sell spurious, adultarated etc etc..).to just show off. Worst are those youngones who earn not but yet waste as their parents can afford.

Hope we Indians too learn to use / spend only as much as we can with honest means and waste not want not , order not if we cant consume.

But high order is n't it?? As we all want to live in false pride and show off.

Wasting food

!!-----please read its my humble request

Germany is a highly industrialized country. It produces top brands like Benz, BMW, Siemens etc. The nuclear reactor pump is made in a small town in this country.
In such a country, many will think its people lead a luxurious life. At least that was my impression before my study trip.

When I arrived at Hamburg , my colleagues who work in Hamburg arranged a welcome party for me in a restaurant. As we walked into the restaurant, we noticed that a lot of tables were empty. There was a table where a young couple was having their meal. There were only two dishes and two cans of  beer on the table. I wondered if such simple meal could be romantic, and  whether the girl will leave this stingy guy.

There were a few old ladies on another table. When a dish is served, the waiter would distribute the food for them, and they would finish every bit of the food on their plates.

We did not pay much attention to them, as we were looking forward to the dishes we ordered. As we were hungry, our local colleague ordered more food for us.

As the restaurant was quiet, the food came quite fast. Since there were other activities arranged for us, we did not spend much time dining. When we left, there was still about one third of unconsumed food on the table.

When we were leaving the restaurant, we heard someone calling us. We noticed the old ladies in the restaurant were talking about us to the restaurant owner. When they spoke to us in English, we understood that they were unhappy about us wasting so much food. We immediately felt that  they were really being too busybody.

"We paid for our food, it is none of your business how much food we left behind," my colleague Gui told the old ladies.

The old ladies were furious. One of them immediately took her hand phone out and made a call to someone. After a while, a man in uniform from the Social Security organization arrived. Upon knowing  what the dispute was, he issued us a 50 Mark fine.

We all kept quiet. The local colleague took out a 50 Mark note and repeatedly apologized to the officer.

The officer told us in a stern voice, "ORDER WHAT YOU CAN CONSUME, MONEY IS YOURS BUT RESOURCES BELONG TO THE SOCIETY. THERE ARE MANY OTHERS IN THE WORLD WHO ARE FACING SHORTAGE OF RESOURCES. YOU HAVE  NO REASON TO WASTE RESOURCES.´"

Our face turned red. We all agreed with him in our hearts. The mindset of people of this rich country put all of us to shame. WE REALLY NEED TO REFLECT ON THIS. We are from  country which is not very rich in resources. To save face, we order large quantity and also waste food when we give others a treat. THIS LESSON TAUGHT US A LESSON TO THINK SERIOUSLY ABOUT CHANGING OUR BAD HABITS.

My colleague Photostatted the fine ticket and gave a copy to each of us as a souvenir. All of us kept it and pasted on our wall to remind us that we shall never be wasteful.

  regards

To, Mr Vijay mallaya...King fisher Airlines

Purposely I have mixed up two issues . 1 Sr. Citizens and their loneliness and failure of Society to provide them company .2. Communication failure and lack of compassion towards passengers including towards ailing sr. Citizens by Kingfisher Airlines.

Dear Shri Vijay Malaya,

Namaskar.

Man and Machine can fail but why communication and hospitality

My mother aged 84 years has not been well for last over six months. She is hypertensive (high B.P.) and is very weak and is suffering from incontinence. Her cornea has been damaged and thus has Low vision. Therefore she cannot do household jobs to pass time. She cannot view TV .She cannot go out even to temple due to physical condition and condition of footpaths in our country. Being at home for long time she was feeling that there should be some change in life. But except for temples for sr. Citizens we have nothing here. She must have attended hundreds of guests over lunch or dinner but None in turn want to invite this ailing women even over a cup of tea (and tea is not important but change is). Those whom we thought have been close to our parents and when they invited us to a party then we took our parents along as they like to mix with all their old near and dear ones. But we were in different language advised to not to take them to such functions like why you are troubling these old parents. When it does not trouble me and when my parents get happiness then what is their problem?  And as far as hosts are concerned when they are having hundreds of guests and spending in thousands and even in lacs then attending few sr. Citizens will make them poor? But no one wants to give some warmth, time and happiness in the life of Sr. Citizen. Neither by visiting them nor by inviting them. So the 24 hrs. of Sr. Citizens is like a whole year and time does not get spent easily.

In the given situation we wanted to give my mother some change (and also we had to go out of Mumbai and simultaneously wanted to carry out some painting work in her room) .Luckily news came that Kingfisher has started flights to Nanded where my sister stays. We convinced her about private airlines being good and safe and also convinced her that Kingfisher is a very good airline and that all airlines fully take care of the unaccompanied old ailing passengers and that they will take full responsibility till she is handed over to relatives.

Somehow she got convinced and was happy that she was going out for some days. She was booked on a Kingfisher Red flight leaving at 5.50 pm on 18th Nov.2008.

We all got up at about 4 am. After readying her we reached Kingfisher Red counter at airport at 5 a.m.. We were given a porter with a wheel chair. Though he seemed to be a nice man but we still tipped him so that we have added confidence that she will be properly taken care of. We asked on your counter whether we need to wait till plane takes off which they advised us against. We also asked if there was any form/ card with sling to be filled up with our details should Airlines require to contact us. They again replied in negative and wheeled her inside. We too left. On way we called up my sister that we have dropped mummy and that they should collect her at arrival time of 7.20 am. at Nanded Airport.

At 7 .30 am my sister called asking me to check that by how much time the flight is late? Being sleepy I told her to find at her Airport itself. She insisted that they have no communication from Mumbai. I told her to wait for some more time. However she called me up at 7.50 am again declaring that flight has been cancelled. I was taken aback and sprang from bed as I realised that it is nearly 3 hours we dropped my mother and in what condition she is? Specially she does not understand English may not understand much of announcements. I also feared if she gets disturbed then her B.P. will also shoot up which can cause any damage (though she was given all her medicines).I reached Airport with my son in ten minutes. We rushed to Kingfisher Red counter. Asked for my mother as their flight has cancelled. To our shock the lady on counter said flight has left .When I insisted that I have confirmed news that same has been cancelled. Then she started checking by calling one Rahul and some other no..For 15 minutes she struggled and when I lost my cool she ran inside the airport and returned after some times and agreed that flight has been cancelled but could not say where the passengers are. Then I started shouting as I feared mummy's B>P> level shooting up. So she called some senior Shiva. He was even carrying Walky talky. He too did not know the Nanded flight has been cancelled and where the passengers are. Then another senior lady came. She could not help us but warned me to not to raise my voice or she will call the security. I shouted and called the security and explained them the seriousness and irresponsible behaviour of Kingfisher. They in turn asked her to solve my problem. However in the meanwhile my son who was looking for some clue reached arrival section and came to know that all passengers have been kept here. However he was not allowed in by security on gate. Then he gave me call and I asked him to go to Airport manager. He was very sympathetic and sent an escort and let my son inside. No sooner my son approached my mother she who was by now in dazed condition started crying. My son pointed out this to even your Mr. Rahul. On way back my mother requested us that hence forth never to send her alone as she was in that shocked state.

And on return flight: Flight Kingfisher IT 4145 dt Dec 17th2008-12-26

We booked the ticket in advance. Several warnings were given time to time like carry I card, carry Xerox of credit card if u have used others card for booking. But no warning was given

A)     That mother being old must be accompanied by an escort.

B)      Being old she should carry fitness certificate from a doctor.

So an hour before the dep. Time when she reached the Nanded airport the Kingfisher Manger on airport refused to allow her without fitness certificate and without the person accompanying.

All persuasion and arguments failed and finally one person accompanied my mother by buying ticket on spot and checked in without baggage.

Now my humble submissions:

You spend money on high salary, costly uniform, interiors, costly calendar with semi nude costly models etc. Etc. Then why not:

1.       Give discounts to senior citizens?

2.       Why not upgrade your communication system? The moment flight is cancelled / rescheduled the SMS should go to all your staff and relevant passengers.

3.       One of the relative of physically challenged passenger ( be child, old, sick etc...) can be advised to wait till flight takes off and if abnormal delay is there then they should be allowed to be together.

4.       Why not train your staff to be compassionate and empower them to take extra ordinary measures to ensure that pleasure of clients and memories of clients are not extinguished. Sometimes it may cost you but will give you rich dividends in terms of blessings and increased loyalty.

5.       There is a compulsory requirement of putting a tag on all luggages. But no requirement for dependant clients?  Make a system that all such passengers wear a badge ( like most corporate give to their employees) which should contain details of relatives ( those who have come to drop and those who will receive such passengers at other end )with their emergency mobile nos. Even brief condition of health and languages understood should be written on 'unaccompanied traveller' card.

6.       The notice board with contact details and email id of responsible persons must be provided on every counter/office of yours. This will make ur staff more responsible and seniors will get first hand info on how ur clients are treated.

When Vilasrao Deshmukh announces subsidy in 24 hrs. for airlines on your appeal then why not respond to my appeal which is for senior citizens.

Hope u will do the needful and set an example in aviation industry about human approach towards all but specially towards sr. citizens, physically challenged.

Thanks and Regards,
Alok Tholiya

Pl. fwd this request to Ms Mamata Mukharji, Secretry railway ministry

The Railway Minister,

such meeting witch only indulges in shoulder rubbing of key persons

As a Jains we find that every  few KM there are temples. Every one is coming out with magazines. And any one with money wants to be boss of an organisation. But do u get what they do in ur term?? Do u hear what they r planning for their next term???They have not circulatedany past achievements/ reports nor any future plannings. But they still want to be there in that chair.

I doubt whether they know the meaning of Adhiveshan which i means a conference. And meaning of conference is given below from WIKIPEDIA which says : A conference is a meeting of people that "confer" about a topic.

I have received at last minute that is today for a adhiveshan on next day. I dont know shorthernotice then this was possible. Then it only shows there is a shoulder rubbing with who is who and maska baji. Then an oath taking or installation ceremony. But there is no agenda for discussion, no deliberations, no dialogue. I have attended such meeting witch  only indulges in shoulder rubbing of key persons and there is no out come on issues before the masses of our community. Hence I will humbkly avoid this so called adhivehsan.
